While doctors are not sure what causes prostate cancer, they have found that African American men, men over age 65, and men whose brothers and fathers have prostate caners are at higher risk of developing prostate cancer than other men.
While early stages of prostate cancer may not show many signs and symptoms, common signs and symptoms of prostate cancer include the following:
- Consistent and constant pain in the pelvis, the lower back, the thighs, or the hips
- Blood in the urine and in the semen
- Pain during ejaculation
- Frequent urination, especially at night or during sleep
- Painful, burning, and weak urination
- Difficulty starting to urinate
- Difficulty when holding back urine
- Difficulty in having erections
- Interrupted flow of urine and difficulty fully emptying the bladder
Some of these symptoms can be caused by cancer, or possibly by an enlarged prostate, which may or may not be cancerous. If you are experiencing a combination of these signs and symptoms, please make an appointment to see your doctor, a urologist, or trusted healthcare professionals as soon as possible.
