The leading cause of lung cancer is smoking, but not everyone who is a smoker gets lung cancer. For the people who do not smoke, being around people who smoke while they are smoking, or being outside in heavily polluted air can also cause lung cancer.
Sometimes, the signs and symptoms of lung cancer are not always immediate, but there are signs and symptoms. Some of the common signs and symptoms of lung cancer include the following:
- Shortness of breath
- Chest and lung infections that occur, go away, and then come back
- Weight loss
- Loss of appetite
- Hoarseness
- Blood in the mouth and throat when you cough
- Deep pain the chest when you cough, laugh, or take deep breaths
- Deep coughs that go away, come back, and often get worse
